Leisurecraft:

A Southern California grimoire of collected travelogue fragments, portals, and totems

After the untimely death of dear friend and collaborator, Matt Hoyt, Jason Sherry and partner Leigh Wilson-Sherry embodied the spirit of Hoyt by saying, “yes” to every concert and every adventure.

Jason started bringing his antique Revere 33 stereo 35mm film camera everywhere they journeyed. They went to see bands play at Pappy & Harriet’s making stops in Cabazon, Palm Springs, and Joshua Tree to take pictures. They went to Los Angeles several times to see bands, Idles, Sisters of Mercy, a festival with Siouxsie and Iggy Pop, each time making extra stops to take pictures of the Hollywood sign, the Griffith Observatory, Disneyland, and Vasquez Rocks. Jason always wanted to visit Vasquez Rocks, the shooting location most famous for a Star Trek episode wherein Captain Kirk fights an alien lizard man. Also, the location where Bill and Ted are murdered in Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.

Jason has harvested images from all these locations to combine, collage, and construct portals through this reality. This collection of images read like fragments from a near-death experience.
